Quarktet Announces U.S. Patent Award for Blind Deconvolution Technique

Silver Spring, MD (February 23, 2005)—Quarktet, proudly announces that it was awarded a new patent covering "Signal processing using the Self-Deconvolving Data Reconstruction Algorithm (SeDDaRA)" by the United States Patent Office. Patent number 6,859,564 describes a blind deconvolution process that requires no information about the signal degradation and is both fast and robust. The process can be applied to any signal, but has been used with great success for the de-blurring of images.

SeDDaRA can identify and remove the blur from images without explicit knowledge of the shape or cause of the blur function. SeDDaRA is unique when compared to other blind deconvolution methods in that it is non-iterative, producing a result much faster than other methods. It is also not constrained to optical images, allowing application to medical, microscopy, security, and space-based applications.

SeDDaRA has been well studied in numerous professional journals as well as featured in an article in LaserFocus World (November 2001). This technique has also been awarded as one of Advanced Imaging Magazine's 2004 Solutions of the Year (January 2004). The solution won by unanimous decision for the removal of blur from an image of the background radiation of the universe. Quarktet compared the NASA WMAP background radiation image to a collection of fractal images to estimate the blur function, and used a pseudo-inverse filter to remove the blur from the image. Both the resolution and contrast are greatly enhanced. “The algorithm enabled a large image with a complicated blur function to be processed in seconds,” said Quarktet President James Caron.

Quarktet invents, develops, and markets innovative technologies to companies and corporations for mutual benefit. Created in January of 2002, the company markets and licenses technologies developed by Founder Dr. James N. Caron. The company website www.Quarktet.com contains many examples of the SeDDaRA algorithm applied to a broad spectrum of imaging technologies.
