Images From Mars
Fig1: A rock in the near field of the first
image released from the NASA Spirit Rover. (Source: NASA/JPL)
Run your mouse over the
image to reveal the restored figure.
Fig
2: Fine structure is revealed after application of SeDDaRA. Some
artifacting
is apparent due to jpeg image compression. NASA uses a lowless
compression
called LOCO-I (LOw COmplexity LOssless COmpression for Images) to
transmit
the images from the Mars surface. Unfortunately, the images released to
the media are not lossless.
Fig1: An image of the Martian terrain (near the
Olympus Mons caldera)taken by the Mars Express spacecraft. (Source: ESA)
Run your mouse over the
image to reveal the restored figure.
Fig 2: Better resolution is achieved through
blind deconvolution. The ridges and rock formations are very clear.
