Sonograms
The ultrasound images displayed
on
this page are sonograms of baby boys at 4 to 5 months into the
pregnancy.
The images originated as screen shots that were printed onto
good-quality photographic paper. The paper was then scanned using an
off-the-shelf digital scanner. Thus, there are four possible
contributors to the blur function, the ultrasound transducer, motion
blur created by the unsteady hand of the technician, the printer, and
the digital scanner. If the information is not beneath the image
noise level, SeDDaRA processing can remove
all four blur functions.

Fig1: A sonogram of the baby boy's feet
. This image is a
screen shot that was printed out on paper, and then digitally scanned.
Run your mouse over the image
to reveal the restored figure.
Fig 2: Restoration of the sonogram. This restoration could be further
improved if the data was processed before printing the hard copy of the
image.

As you can see the amount
of restoration is significant, but probably does not reveal any further
information to the user. In fact, with all the format
conversions, we were amazed the technique showed any improvement at
all. Ideally, this process would be performed
on the data as it existed on the computer to remove further degradation
of the data. Unfortunately, Quarktet
has not had access to this type of data. If you are a medical
researcher, or have similar interests, we welcome the opportunity to
apply SeDDaRA to 'raw' ultrasound images. Please Contact us.

The top baby arrived on November 11, 2002, in good health, although a
little cranky. The baby with the fist is expected soon.
